General
1.When are you open?
We are open all year round.
Summer Opening Times (April – October) – 7 days a week 9am – 5pm (Weekdays till 8pm by prior arrangement)

Winter Opening Times (November – March) – Monday- Friday 9am – 5pm
Weekends – by prior arrangement

3.What activities do you provide?

4.Location
Edgbaston Watersports is located on the banks of Edgbaston Reservoir, in the heart of Birmingham, so it is easily accessible from Birmingham and the surrounding areas. From the motorway, we are close to Junction 3 of the M5

5.Do you have changing facilities and showers?
Yes, all of our changing rooms have showers and toilet facilities.

6.Do you have parking facilities?
Yes, we are able to provide onsite parking – free of charge.

7.Are there facilities for spectators?
Yes

8.What would happen in bad weather?
In the event of bad weather, some activities may need to be altered. Please contact a member of our team for further information.

9.Do I need insurance cover?
Bear Creek Adventure Ltd & Edgbaston Watersports has public liability insurance. This insurance cover is sufficient to meet the potential liability resulting from
activities involving our participants.

Personal insurance is not included. Whilst you are in the safe hands with us,
we strongly advise that all participants if required should have or take out
additional cover

10.What are your terms and conditions?

Individuals

1.What course should I book?
We have a variety of courses and activities suitable for beginners as well to advanced skill level, please speak to a member of our staff for further information on 0121 4541997.

2.How long is a course?
The length of a course can vary depending on the programme.

3.How much does it cost?
The cost of a course can vary depending on your chosen course option. Please see the relevant part of the website for further costings.

4.What is included in my course fee?
All course costs include safety equipment, wetsuit & qualified instructors

5.How fit do I need to be?
To enjoy your course, you should be confident in water and with a reasonable level of general fitness. If you suffer from any form of illness or medical disability, please advise us when booking. If you suffer from specific medical conditions you should check with your doctor before making a booking.

6.Do I need to be able to swim?
All participants, including adults, involved in ‘on water’ activities must have a degree of water confidence. They do not have to be able to swim, our buoyancy aids provide more than adequate floatation, however we do ask that we are informed of the non-swimmers.

7.How do I redeem daily deal vouchers e.g. living social / KGB deals etc
Please contact a member of our staff to redeem a daily deal voucher.

8.Can I purchase a gift voucher?
Yes, gift vouchers are available to purchase all year round. Please call 0121 454 1997 for further information.

9.What do we need to bring with us?
Bear Creek Adventure Ltd & Edgbaston Watersports will provide all technical safety equipment for activities. All key center staff have access to first aid kits. You will need to ensure that you’re suitably dressed for weather conditions and also for the activities detailed on your course. Make sure you have suitable footwear for activities and a spare change and warm clothes for when you come off the water.

10.Is there a minimum age restriction for children?
The age can vary depending on the chosen activities and the type of course / programme that is required. Please contact a member of our team for further information.

11.Can I do a course during the week?
Yes – please contact a member of staff for further information 0121 454 1997

12.Is accommodation available?
We have no onsite accommodation however we can advise on the nearest hotels / hostels etc within the area.

13.Can you cater for any specific requirements?
We can cater for an array of different needs including designing bespoke course and individuals with specific needs – please speak to a member of our team for further information on 0121 454 1997.

14.Can I bring my own equipment?
Unfortunately not, due to insurance implications we have had to discontinue our pay and play sessions.

15.Do you do Birthday Parties?
Edgbaston Watersports is a great place to hold a birthday party. The party runs for 2 hours and the minimum age is 8 years old.
All the equipment and instruction is included – there is a minimum group size of 8 participants.

16.Do you have any activities available for children during the school holidays or at weekends? 
Yes we have our Junior Academy which takes place every Sunday between April and October. We also provide a holiday scheme which runs during half term’s and summer holidays.

17.What training and qualifications do your instructors have?
All instructors are trained & assessed in each of our activities at either National Governing Body awards or have complete a comprehensive in-house training & assessment following industry best practice with our experienced trainers. Our instructors are regularly observed to ensure they are complying with our safety standards and delivering a quality experience to our visitors. All lead instructors hold relevant and valid first aid qualifications and each day we have a Duty Manager available to deal with any issues that may arise during your visit and to help solve problems.

18.Do your prices include VAT?
We are a not-for-profit organisation and as such do not charge VAT

19.I have completed a course – what next?


20.What is your payment procedure?
Provisional bookings can be made over the telephone but they must be confirmed by post within 10 days of the telephone booking. ALL course fees are payable in advance for the course.

21.What is your cancellation procedure?
All cancellations must be in writing. If the booking is cancelled for any reason a full refund less an administration fee of £30.00 will be made provided that it is made no less than 20 days prior to the course. No refund will be made for bookings cancelled less than 20 days in advance of the booking.  Whilst every attempt is made to ensure that courses actually run, Bear Creek Adventure Ltd will notify the client by telephone where we believe on reasonable grounds that cancellation is necessary due to factors beyond our control, dangerous and/or unsuitable conditions for the course. In the event of cancellation the client will be offered a course on a different date.

Groups

Our mobile activities, available to come to a suitable venue near you: Mobile climbing wall / Archery / Fencing / Problem Solving/ Bike Challenge course

We can also provide day river trip’s in open canoeing & kayaking. Activities can be provided if you are going on a residential experience

2.Why is an educational visit to Edgbaston Watersports so important?

In addition to meeting several requirements of the National Curriculum, a visit to Bear Creek Adventure Ltd & Edgbaston Watersports provides your pupils with a brand new learning environment which is exciting, challenging and fun. They will have opportunities to expand their horizon and build their confidence and independence by trying new adventure and educational activities in a safe, secure setting. Our activities promote self confidence, team building and awareness. Our activities are carefully planned to include plenty of learning opportunities and to ensure that your child has fun too. Some courses are linked to specific subjects or the National Curriculum, whilst others are about personal development.

3.Are your centre’s approved for use by schools or educational establishment like ours?
We are supported by LEAs throughout the country and every year hundreds of schools entrust Bear Creek Adventure Ltd & Edgbaston Watersports with the organisation and co-ordination of their curriculum based adventure or adventure study courses.

4.What are the special safety provisions for activities?
Your group will be in the care of highly experienced and qualified activity instructors at all times. Our centre has excellent training standards and over 10 years experience working will school groups of all ages and abilities. At Bear Creek Adventure Ltd & Edgbaston Watersports, activities are run to strict student – instructor ratios. Our training centre is approved by the Royal Yachting Association and by the Adventure Activity Licensing Authority.

5.Do you cater children with challenging behavior / special needs?
We have a commitment to providing activities for children with challenging behavior / special needs. Disabled persons are welcome to participate, subject to submission of details to Bear Creek Adventure Ltd & Edgbaston Watersports.
Bear Creek Adventure Ltd & Edgbaston Watersports must be informed of any medical conditions (ie. asthma, epilepsy, deafness) or any other special needs of any/all participants. Where the situation necessitates it, we may need to consider reducing the maximum group sizes to ensure that supervision is not compromised.

6.Do they need to be able to swim?
All participants, including adults, involved in ‘on water’ activities must have a degree of water confidence. They do not have to be able to swim, our buoyancy aids provide more than adequate floatation, However we do ask that we are informed of the non-swimmers

7.What training and qualifications do your instructors have?
When you choose to book your trip with Bear Creek Adventure Ltd & Edgbaston Watersports, you can be confident it will be a trip of the highest quality.
The safety of our guests is paramount and risk assessments for each activity are reviewed annually. In addition, ‘risk assessments’ are carried out on an ongoing basis by the  instructor leading each activity to reflect ongoing changes to conditions and environment.

Our centre is also accredited by the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA), (Their staff have the appropriate level of competence to undertake formal checks on systems and procedures check the operating guidelines, including the level of Qualifications of staff leading activities, risk assessments, health and safety monitoring and standards of equipment.)
Paddlesport is approved by the BCU (British Canoe Union) and all our sailing, windsurfing and powerboating is a recognised RYA (Royal Yachting Association) teaching establishments.
At Bear Creek Adventure Ltd & Edgbaston Watersports we understand that it is the quality, professionalism and enthusiasm of our staff members that make your visit to us
so exceptional. We invest in our staff so you see the return in quality delivery in a safe, fun environment. All our instructors go through a rigorous induction & training process and The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Enhanced Disclosure is undertaken. 8.What is a AALA License?
The Adventurous Activities Licensing Authority (AALA) is a government agency that is part of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). They are the ‘lead authority’ in health and safety matters relating to outdoor activity centre’s

9.Do you have first aid cover?
All of our staff and volunteers are first aid trained.

10.Are your staff The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checked?
All paid staff and volunteers working at the Centre are subject to an enhanced The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Additionally, our staff are trained in appropriate behaviour when working with young people.

11.Is there a minimum age restriction for children?
The age can vary depending on the chosen activities and the type of course/ programme that is required. Please contact a member of our team for

12.Can you cater for any specific requirements?
Yes we can – please contact a member of our team of these requirements.

13.Do you have risk assessments?
All of our activities and facilities are risk assessed in accordance with HSE guidelines.As the nature of these risk assessments are very technical we do not make them available for general inspection. However, if a specific request is made we will supply the necessary documentation

14.Can I have pre site visit?
Yes – please contact a member of our staff who will be able to arrange this for you.

15.What are your group sizes?
Our standard group size is a maximum of 10 young people at any one time; a member of your staff may accompany each group. Bear Creek Adventure Ltd & Edgbaston Watersports staff has the right to refuse to continue the session/ activity if the group numbers are above the maximum number stated.

16.How many organisation staff do I need to bring?
This number is based on the guidelines set out by your Education Authority / Organisation Body

17.Do leaders need to take part in activities?
We prefer group leaders to take part in the activities with their group when possible.
As group leader / responsible adult we expect you to have overall supervision of your group at all times. During activities, a responsible adult should assist with general supervision while Bear Creek Adventure & Edgbaston Watersports staff will take responsibility of all technical and safety aspects. During non activity time it is the sole responsibly of the group leader / responsible adult to ensure adequate supervision of their group.

18.Can you assist with launching and promoting the visit to parents?
Once you have made a booking we can help organise your trip and promote this to parents. In our experience, a parents evening is invaluable element to launch and promote your visit. We will be happy to come and assist your evening.

19.Do you have an indoor space?
Monday to Friday we can provide an indoor space if required. Weekend availability is dependent on external events. Please ask a member of our staff for information.

20.What do we need to bring? (Do students need to wear any special clothing?)
We advise to bring the following:
·  Wetsuit (if you have your own)
·  Swimwear, sunglasses, sun cream, towel
·  Woolly hat or sun hat (dependant on time of year)
·  Pair of old trainers or sensible foot wear
·  A change of clothes
·  A large plastic bag for wet clothing
·  Lunch (if your there for the day)

21.What happens in the event of bad weather?
It is highly unlikely that your child’s day will need to be cancelled due to poor weather. As with all outdoor activities, they can be adapted to suit all weather conditions and we have substantial experience running activities in all weather conditions. In the unusual event activities may need to be cancelled, this decision will be made by our management team who will inform you school directly.

22.Do your prices include VAT?
Prices quoted do not include VAT, we don’t charge VAT


23.What is your payment procedure?
The booking form must be completed and signed by the Group Leader/ Coordinator. Provisional bookings can be made over the telephone but they must be confirmed by post within 14 days of the telephone booking. A deposit of 20% will be required at the time of booking.The full amount is payable before the course.

24.What is your cancellation procedure?
