From a beginning almost as old as mankind, when the kayak or canoe was part of the process of survival, to the present day, when boundaries of exploration are being rolled back, canoeing is a sport rich in potential for young and old – the adventurous and the less adventurous.
Designed for the absolute beginner, discover how much fun paddlesport can be. The first session can be looked at as a taster session and builds water confidence then the afternoon session aims to provide a safe and fun environment to build up paddling confidence and introduce the concepts of forwards, backwards, sideways, turning and steering in a variety of boats.
The course will cover the following launching canoes & kayaks, forwards paddling, steering and control strokes. There is also a theory element to the 1 star award but this is also covered on the course.
Upon completion of this course you may move onto British Canoeing 2 Star.
All courses are subject to sufficient numbers and suitable weather conditions and are non-residential. In the case of insufficient numbers being booked you will be notified in the week leading up to the course and offered an alternative date.
