We are proud to announce new for 2017 our Sailable programme
Edgbaston Watersports hold weekly sailable sailing sessions every Monday, weather permitting, throughout the season from the start of April to late October, excluding bank holidays. Our sessions are open to anyone aged from 16 years old with a disability. Our sailable sailors can experience sailing in either our smaller Access Dinghies or our larger RS Venture Keelboat and take part to the level that they are comfortable with and enjoy.
The first sail is at 9:45 am, the last sail will be 3:15 pm. Each session lasts about 45 minutes and costs £7.50 plus a one-off annual membership fee of £5. It is essential to book so that we can plan the day. Session times are a guide, due to the nature of the groups some may need a little more time.
Sailable sailors can range from individuals to large groups from a variety of care establishments, all are welcome.
Carers and helpers are more than welcome to come down free of charge, but we cannot guarantee participation.
Do I get a Certificate?
Sailors can work towards the RYA Sailability Certificates of Achievement. The primary purpose of this RYA scheme is to enable people with a disability, to work through the national sailing scheme at a pace that suits them
All sailors must wear personal buoyancy, which we provide and fit correctly. We also have a range of waterproof clothing available for when conditions require. Please come equipped with spare items of clothing as well as weather appropriate clothing i.e gloves, sun hat, sun cream etc.
